The Seelie court, also known as the glittering throng, is led by the awe-inspiring High King Faelin. His full title is Faelin, bright High King of the Seelie, Ascendent of Air and Illusion. He has ruled this court for hundreds of years, and although the Seelie claim to be above all the violence and blood of the Unseelie court, the political maneuverings of Faelin’s enemies has become an art form. When revealed, however, rather than made a public spectacle of, these ambitious Sidhe simply disappear. No one, not even the other members of their house, ever dare to speak their name or question their whereabouts again. Through this tactic, the fae of the Seelie court honestly claim that high king Faelin simply has no enemies.
High king Faelin has a consort of his own, but she has not been seen in public court for many decades. Nuala, Queene of the Seelie, was chosen as consort by Faelin from among many of the most beautiful Seelie Sidhe noblewomen, after the unusual death of Mairwen, his first. Nuala is long considered to be the most alluring and graceful of all Sidhe women. The excuse Faelin has given for her absence is that she is growing her strength alone in her room as Nuala and Faelin have decided to conceive a child.
Infant Sidhe born into the Seelie court have been a rare occurrence for some time, and many of the noble houses celebrated this incredible news when it was announced. As the years pass, however, more than one Sidhe wonders when the pregnant Nuala will show herself again, but like many secrets of the Seelie court, no one speaks these thoughts aloud. Instead, everyone smiles and speaks loudly about how beautiful Nuala must look, heavy with child.
