"...Ah ocean it has been so long. Every footstep is memory, like walking on broken bones. Like that old tale, the girl who wanted to become the best dancer in the world. Yes, said the sorceress, but each time you set your foot on earth will be like knives slashing. If you can stand the pain, you will be granted your desire." -from The Mistress of Spices, by C.B. Divakaruni
A parable: "Two Wolves" One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, esentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Oh, I think I have a writing I am working on that *needs* to be prefaced with your wolf parable. And as a side note - - I love the top exerpt. What is it from? A novel? Short story?

As far as the first piece goes, I don't know. I found just that snippet on an artists website. It's where I got most of my literary clips. The artists name is Stephanie Pui-Mun Law. She has a beautiful watercolor tarot deck.
