When a fae is exposed to extreme stress or becomes overly emotional and they attempt to access the mists through use of their birthrights, an unleashing occurs. Rather than the wylde magic of the mists being funneled, finely tuned into the effect, it becomes more like a mad grab as the frantic fae wildly throws the magic of the mists raw and unchanneled directly at their target.
Unleashings can be very dangerous to the casting fae as wyld magic is unpredictable and chaotic. There is about a 50/50 chance that the vibrant emotion of the fae heart will cause their own magic to turn back on them.
Firstborn fae are among the few who have better luck getting positive results from their unleashings, but many say this is only because of their advanced age. It is sait their hearts have begun to slow over the years as they grow more stolid and less interested in their surroundings.
