The “mists of creation” or simply “the mists” is a catch all term the fae use to describe the origin of all magics. The fae believe that everything – life, matter, spirit, even the Gods themselves – formed from the mists. As fae, they are the first creatures able to shape and control the power of the mists. The fae recognize, somewhat sadly, that once something is formed of the mists, it cannot be un-formed. Sometimes, however, it can be changed.
The mists are a chaotic and wild magic, raw in its purest form. It is in and around everything in the fae lands. It is what the fae tap into to power their birthrights, cloak their fae appearance or release magic in a barely controlled, but extremely powerful burst called an unleashing. (The fae known as firstborn, those created at the dawn of time from the mists themselves are quite good at unleashings, but they also understand that such wild magic can never have a predicted outcome.)
