The Windsingers are tiny, winged fae that often mimic flitting insects or small birds with powerful glamour. They do have a court of their own, not that the Sidhe courts have taken much notice of it. The leader of the Windsingers, or Sylphs, as they call themselves, has been in power longer than any of the tiny fae can remember.
The Windsinger leader, a position they call "The Paralda" is named Aerona. Her full title today is Aerona, Paralda of the Sylph, Devourer of Queenes. She and the rest of the Sylphs have been allied to the Unseelie court since the Yule Ball of 1620. This terrible night has great historical significance to all the tiny fae as the night they were cruelly betrayed by the Seelie Queene.
Windsingers have always been overlooked by the larger fae and most consider them to be a minor annoyance, much like the insects they mimic. In preparation for the Seelie Yule Ball that year, High King Faelin's first consort, Mairwen, demanded that her dress reflect the most beautiful springtime colors. She and her assistants gathered up hundreds of Windsingers and brutally tore their wings from their bodies, sewing them onto her long silk gown.
While Mairwen danced among the court and recieved compliments on her beautiful powdery cloth, the vast majority of left-over Sylph, tossed aside, broken and bleeding from their devastating wounds simply died on the floor of her dressing room.
The few that managed to crawl back to Aerona's court reported with their last breaths the details of their torment. Queene Aerona, now in a bloodthirsty rage, called to her an army of the Sylphy and they swarmed down upon the Seelie Queen in the midst of her great ball. Using their vast powers of glamour, they blinded the rest of the Sidhe to Mairwen's writhing screams as the tiny army tore at her skin and devoured her flesh until she was no more.
Murder done, the tiny Queene Aerona and her army took back the now bloodied dress of wings back to their own court. Rumor is, it hangs there still as a reminder of what the Sylphy can do when crossed.
The Sylph did not emerge unscathed, however. Since this night, as a result of a curse Mairwen uttered with her dying screams, every Windsinger now craves the taste of Sidhe blood. They will use their glamour, their cunning, and the Sidhe's underestimation of their "cute" and "tiny" forms to get it. The Windsingers make excellent spies for the Unseelie smart enough to use them and they will often trade information for draughts of blood.
